Full Closing report: Impressive premiere: embedded world STUDENT DAY
  • Exhibition as career springboard
  • More than 700 students travelled to Nürnberg
  • Student from Leipzig wins University AWARD
The embedded world STUDENT DAY celebrated an impressive premiere. More than 700 motivated university students travelled to Nürnberg to use the world’s biggest embedded technologies exhibition as a springboard for their careers. Even students from North Germany made the journey to the Franconian metropolis. Students from all over Germany enthusiastically accepted the offer from NürnbergMesse to experience the third day of embedded world free of charge. The highlight of the special programme was the exclusive lecture by Prof. Steve Furber, one of the fathers of embedded technology.

“The STUDENT DAY was exciting and informative. The trip to Nürnberg has definitely been worth it,” says Peter Heise, information system technology student at Darmstadt TU. The day started with an introduction to embedded systems by Prof. Matthias Sturm, Chairman of the embedded world Exhibition Committee.Prof. Furber’s lecture on “Building Brains – neural modelling with embedded processors” went into more depth. The prospective embedded engineers listened with fascination to the words of the computer engineering professor at Manchester University, who co-developed the legendary ARM processor. Up-and-coming developers also had the chance to shine at the STUDENT DAY. Sebastian Wegner, Leipzig University of Applied Sciences, won the noted University AWARD for his master’s thesis on “Signal Analysis & Calibration for a Measuring System for Bioimpedance Spectroscopy”. The lucky winner, who has already set up his own company, was delighted with the notebook donated by pls. After the presentation, the students were able to gain an overview of the embedded industry in the exhibition halls and make contacts with the exhibiting companies.

The eleven companies which supported the STUDENT DAY together with NürnbergMesse were present with their personnel managers for holding direct talks with potential placements, graduands or new staff. Sonja Morrison of Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) sums up positively: “The students were remarkably motivated and qualified. We welcomed an estimated 300 students to our stand and had many interesting talks.” Besides FME, the STUDENT DAY is supported by GLYN, Lantronix, MKS, STMicroelectronics, Vector, Congatec, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, Infineon, Ipetronik and pls. The last day of the exhibition with its focus on knowledge transfer and careers could prove to be a winning model from which both exhibitors and students profit. “The great response has shown us that the premiere of the STUDENT DAY was a complete success. I am sure this concept is also outstandingly suited to other events at the Nürnberg exhibition centre,” says Richard Krowoza, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse.
